In the project THE MISTAKE I AM from 2012, Jetpack Bellerive is searching for the meaning of mistake, in today’s society and for the individual artist. In what way does making mistakes define the individual and how does it impose a certain reception upon the latter? Is it part of the artistic process and from which point does this development start?
The composers Stephen Crowe (GB), Jean-Luc Darbellay (CH), Georgy Dorokhov (RUS), Aleksander Gabrys (PL), Benedikt Hayoz (CH) and Stefan Wirth (CH) were asked by us to compose new experimental, music theatral, performative, and/or installative pieces for our work in progress presentation THE MISTAKE I AM. In collaboration with artist Camillo Paravicini, we will set up interventions serving as connecting and expanding elements within the programme. An evening-length and non-interruptive show will stand as a result, consisting of both new compositions and other pieces for violin and horn that were written for us by Manos Tsangaris (D) and Moritz Müllenbach (CH).
The duo Noëlle-Anne Darbellay and Samuel Stoll were the invited guests of the Kulturraum Hirzenberg Association. To call it a concert would have only been partly true. In fact musical and theatrical elements, linguistic acrobatics, video clips and a crocodile speaking through a ventriloquist came together and united to make a continuous performance of a good hour in which humour, too, was not in short supply. But there was a lot on offer for the ears as well. The compositions often used violin and horn as acoustic sources for the most diverse sound expressions possible, complemented at times by the imaginative input of voices. There was the insertion of live electronics too, such as in the delicious deconstruction of Vivaldiʼs Seasons, played to smithereens by the horn player in the role of ʻnon-violinistʼ.
As the third in the company was Francisco Sierra. By trade an exceptionally gifted painter, here he was responsible for production and videos, though he also lent his voice as ventriloquist to the aforementioned crocodile. In the presence of the two composers Jean-Luc Darbellay and Aleksander Gabrys the performance met great approval from the audience and gave food for animated discussion.
